OKFB selects Steve Thompson to lead public policy efforts

Oklahoma Farm Bureau has named Steve Thompson as the farm organization’s senior director of public policy. Women’s Leadership Committee awards four Nurse’s Training Scholarships

The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee recently awarded four $500 scholarships to nursing students. Joyce Taylor of Creek County, Jordan Roper of Custer County, Kylee Campbell of Alfalfa County and April Hale of Okmulgee County are the recipients of the scholarship. The WLC recognizes the significant role nurses play in ensuring a high quality of life for all Oklahomans, especially those in rural areas. Amber-Pocasset student wins YF&R High School Discussion Meet

Jackson Caves from Amber-Pocasset was named the winner of the 2019 Oklahoma Farm Bureau High School Discussion Meet held July 16 in Stillwater. Held in conjunction with the Oklahoma State University Big Three Field Days, 11 students from across the state competed in the event. Through the discussion meet, participants gain valuable experience in basic discussion skills while developing an understanding of agricultural issues that the industry is currently facing. OKFB members receive $500 Conquest Cash

Oklahoma Farm Bureau members can now receive an additional $500 toward the purchase of an eligible Ford and Lincoln vehicle using the Ford Farm Bureau Conquest Cash now through Sept. 30, 2019. Qualifying Farm Bureau members that have claimed the Farm Bureau Bonus Cash and currently own or lease a 1995 or newer non-Ford, non-Lincoln or non-Mercury vehicle are eligible for the additional $500 Farm Bureau Conquest Cash. OKFB hosts students for OYLA

Ten high school seniors from across the state recently participated in Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Oklahoma Youth Leading Agriculture conference June 25-28, 2019. OYLA is a three-day annual event hosted by the OKFB Young Farmers & Ranchers to prepare high school students for a future career in agriculture and to advance youth leadership. Thompson joins OKFB public policy

Oklahoma Farm Bureau has named Steve Thompson an assistant director of public policy in OKFB’s public policy division. Thompson was raised on the Lincoln County farm his family settled in the land run of 1891. After studying agricultural education and agricultural economics at Oklahoma State University, he worked for nine years at the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, first as legislative liaison, then as associate commissioner. During his time with ODAFF, their team at the state Capitol helped to secure historic funding for rural fire departments and a new $12 million agriculture laboratory. Oklahoma Farm Bureau members from across the state gathered for the OKFB State Leadership Conference held Feb. 18-19 in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma farmers encouraged by new Clean Water Rule, Moesel says

Oklahoma farmers are encouraged by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency proposed Clean Water Rule, Oklahoma Farm Bureau President Rodd Moesel said in a recent Gaylord News story.  “We’re very encouraged,” Moesel said. “We’ve been working for several years to get the last rule, which we thought was a terrible overreach, moderated to where it made sense.” The proposed rule replaces the Obama-era Water of the U.S., or WOTUS, rule that defined which waterways were regulated under the Clean Water Act.
