Eradicating Oklahoma’s feral hogs

Can feral hogs be eradicated in Oklahoma? Josh Gaskamp, a wildlife and range consultant for the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, is working to find out. Feral hogs cause an estimated $800 million to $1.5 billion in agricultural and environmental damage in the United States each year, Gaskamp said.  With numbers estimated between 617,000 and 1.4 million, Oklahoma is ranked in the top four states with the highest population of feral hogs. Duncan joins OKFB as public policy coordinator, Martin named director of safety services

Tasha Duncan, a native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, recently joined the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Public Policy Division as a public policy coordinator. Duncan is responsible for Public Policy Division scheduling, Capitol visit scheduling, event planning, ethics reporting and more. OKFB August Area Meeting dates released

Oklahoma Farm Bureau has announced the tentative details for its annual August Area Meetings, which serve as the beginning of the grassroots policy development process. The meetings allow Farm Bureau members from across the state to gather and discuss issues impacting agriculture and rural Oklahoma. Members of OKFB Public Policy Division staff also will discuss details regarding the State Question 777, or the Right to Farm, campaign. Young farm and ranch leaders flock to Stillwater for annual meeting

Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers and Ranchers held their annual conference July 10-11 in Stillwater, where more than 50 young agriculturalists gathered to learn about agriculture, expand their leadership capabilities and make connections. The group of young leaders from around the state heard from a variety of presenters on a wide range of agricultural topics during the two-day event. Farm Family of the Year applications due July 31

The application deadline is drawing near for Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee’s Farm Family of the Year award, which recognizes a top farm and ranch family in rural Oklahoma. Applications from around the state must be submitted by July 31. OKFB WLC Nurse’s Scholarship July 15 deadline approaching

The deadline for the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee’s Nurse’s Scholarship is July 15.  The annual scholarship program awards three $500 scholarships to students studying nursing at an accredited college, university, vo-tech or trade school. Applicants must be Oklahoma Farm Bureau members or a member of a Farm Bureau member family. The WLC understands the important role nurses and healthcare professionals play in ensuring a high quality of life for all residents across our state, and especially rural residents. July Fourth cookout costs less this year, still under $6 per person

A Fourth of July cookout of Americans’ favorite foods including hot dogs, cheeseburgers, pork spare ribs, potato salad, baked beans, lemonade and chocolate milk will cost slightly less this year and still comes in at less than $6 per person, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation. Preliminary YF&R summer conference schedule released

Note: The final conference schedule has been added below Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee has released a preliminary schedule of events for the group’s summer conference July 10-11 in Stillwater. The conference will be held at the Best Western Cimarron Hotel & Suites. The conference will include workshops at the hotel as well as on-site tours in the Stillwater area. Registration for the conference is $25 per person. Registration plus a hotel room for one night at the host hotel is $150.
